Installation: Mural
Important note: If you ordered luxury paper prior to April 1st 2026, you are required to thoroughly wet the back of the paper with water and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before hanging it on the wall. This step only applies to luxury paper.
If you ordered luxury paper from April 1st 2026 onward, this additional step is not required.
Your mural is supplied in numbered drops for installation from left to right. Depending on the size of your order, these drops may be supplied on one roll or across multiple rolls. Before installation, fully unroll all rolls and arrange the drops in numerical order.
Drops have all been produced at the same width, other than the final drop which just makes up the remaining width of the mural as specified on your order.
For this reason, we recommend checking all drop numbers and the width of the final drop before installation begins. Starting installation without first identifying the final drop may result in the mural being positioned incorrectly on the wall.
If you experience any issues or have any product concerns while installing your wallpaper then please email hello@bobbibeck.com with photos at the earliest possible chance. We recommend that you stop installing the wallpaper if there are issues.
Tools you will need;
- Ready-mixed paste
- Paint brush
- Sharp knife
- Sponge
- Spirit level
- Wallpaper smoother
Step 1. Wall preparation
Walls should be smooth, clean, dry and a uniform colour before hanging wallpaper. Fill and sand any holes, cracks or imperfections, and remove any dust, grease, loose paint or old adhesive. Textured walls should be skimmed smooth or lined with suitable lining paper. New plaster and other absorbent surfaces should be sealed with a wallpaper primer before installation.
Step 2. Measure & cut your drops
Each drop will arrive labelled and numbered. Unroll all panels and place them in sequence order, butted up, on the floor before installing anything. This will ensure you are installing the panels in the correct order and allows you to preview the mural as a whole before starting the installation.
Step 3. Paste the wall & begin hanging
Use a brush to apply adhesive to the wall and cut in around edges, corners and fixtures. Once the wall is pasted, begin hanging the wallpaper from the top down. Start with drop one on the left of the wall.
For the most accurate installation, measure the wallpaper width and lightly mark it on the wall with a pencil. Using a spirit level, draw a vertical guideline from ceiling to floor and align the first drop to this line.
Your mural has been printed slightly larger than your dimensions to create excess. When installing your first panel, ensure to use the vertical excess (typically 50mm / 2 inches).
Paste one drop-width at a time to prevent the adhesive from drying before hanging. As you hang the wallpaper, smooth away any ripples or air bubbles using a smoother. Once the drop is positioned correctly, trim the excess wallpaper at the ceiling and skirting board using a sharp blade before the paste fully dries.
Step 4. Continue hanging
When hanging subsequent drops, carefully match the pattern and butt the edges together without overlapping. Press the seams firmly to create a neat finish. Take care to avoid getting adhesive on the face of the wallpaper. If any paste comes into contact with the surface, gently remove it with a damp sponge.
Once installed, allow the wallpaper to dry at room temperature for at least 24 hours. Avoid significant changes in temperature or humidity during this time.
